More About Us

Our Story

The idea for Pawsome Pet Lodge began back in 2011 when Ulandi, a pet lover and animal care enthusiast, saw the need for a more compassionate approach to pet care.

In 2017, she and her husband Pieter turned this vision into a reality by creating a space where dogs could roam free, socialize, and feel at home.

Today, we have lots of happy doggie clients and hundreds of satisfied owners.

If you’re unsure whether your dog fits our criteria, please feel free to contact us—we’re always happy to advise.

We carefully monitor all dogs in our care and act immediately if there are any signs of illness or injury. Should veterinary attention be required, your dog will be taken to a vet without delay and you will be notified as soon as possible. Any veterinary or medical costs incurred will remain the responsibility of the owner.

Absolutely! We share regular updates, including photos and videos, so you can see your dog happy and enjoying their stay. We know how important it is to feel connected and reassured while you’re away.

If you need to extend your dog's stay, please contact us as soon as possible. We will do our best to accommodate your request based on availability. Additional charges will apply for the extended stay.

Yes, it’s normal for some dogs to lose a small amount of weight during their stay due to increased activity and excitement. With more playtime and social interaction, they naturally burn more energy. Rest assured, all dogs are provided with ample food and constant access to fresh water to keep them healthy and well cared for.

As a responsible pet lodge, we strongly prefer that all dogs are sterilised where possible. We understand that, in some cases, dogs cannot be sterilised for medical reasons. These dogs may still be considered for admission, provided they do not pose any behavioural or safety risks.

For the wellbeing and harmony of all dogs in our free-roam environment, we believe that neutering is in the dog’s best interest.

Please note that female dogs who are in season (on heat) are unfortunately not permitted to stay at the lodge.

As we operate a free-roam environment, neutering helps ensure a calm, happy, and stress-free stay for all our guests.

Yes, we do! In partnership with Troetelrit, we offer safe, air conditioned transportation at an additional rate.

We provide everything your pet needs during their stay, including quality food (Supervet Small Bite), comfortable bedding, and bowls.

If your dog is on a special or medical diet, you are welcome to supply their own food. Please ensure all food is pre-cooked, frozen, and clearly labeled, as this helps us safely prepare and serve meals.

For hygiene and safety reasons, no personal items such as bedding or toys may be brought along.

All dogs must arrive on a secure body harness or leash.
🚫 No retractable leashes.
Each dog must also wear a collar with an identification tag — this is mandatory.

Our kennel-free dog boarding offers a calm, home-style environment where dogs feel safe, relaxed, and at ease. We provide spacious open areas for supervised play and social interaction, allowing dogs to move freely and comfortably with our team.

Each dog receives personalized care, including balanced exercise, mental enrichment, and plenty of rest time. Our space is clean, secure, and thoughtfully enriched with toys, cozy sleeping areas, and outdoor spaces for fresh air.

Above all, we prioritize every dog’s health, happiness, and emotional well-being, ensuring they feel loved, settled, and well cared for throughout their stay.

Deworming & Flea/Tick Treatment

Please ensure your dog’s deworming and flea/tick treatments are up to date before check-in.

  • For stays of 14 days or longer, dogs must be dewormed again after their stay.

  • Do not administer any treatments the day before or on check-in day, as dogs must be monitored at home afterward.

  • Treatments must be given 1–2 days apart and not on the same day.

Example Schedule:

  • Day 1: Deworming (Milbemax recommended)

  • Day 2: Flea/Tick treatment (e.g. Frontline)

Vaccinations

Keeping vaccinations current is essential for the health and safety of all dogs in our care.

  • Any outstanding vaccinations must be completed at least 2–4 weeks before check-in.

  • We accept dogs whose vaccinations were administered within the last 3 years.

Required Vaccinations

  • Rabies: Accepted every 3 years

  • 5-in-1 Vaccine: Accepted every 3 years

Kennel Cough (Not Mandatory)

  • Injection must be given at least 4 weeks before check-in.

  • Nose drops may be given 72 hours prior, however we recommend 1–2 weeks beforehand to reduce vaccine shedding.

Vaccination Guidelines for Older Dogs & Puppies

Older Dogs (7 years and older)

  • No longer require up-to-date vaccinations, as immunity is generally sufficient.

Puppies

We accept puppies 4 months and older during the year, provided they have completed the following vaccination schedule:

  • 6 weeks: 5-in-1

  • 9 weeks: 5-in-1

  • 12 weeks: 5-in-1 + Rabies

  • 16 weeks: 5-in-1 + Rabies

December Period:

  • Puppies must be 6 months or older.

Do all the dogs get along at the lodge?

Yes—creating a safe, calm, and harmonious environment is one of our top priorities. With many years of hands-on experience, we carefully manage group dynamics and only accept dogs that are socially suitable for a shared environment.

We have a zero-tolerance policy for aggressive, dominant, or excessive mounting behaviour. Dogs are continuously observed, and any behaviour that may cause stress or discomfort to others is addressed immediately. If a dog is not suited to group care, we will discuss this openly with the owner to ensure the best outcome for everyone.

Our goal is that every dog feels secure, relaxed, and happy during their stay.

Common Behaviours After Your Dog’s Stay

Increased Sleep
It’s very normal for dogs to sleep more when they return home. This usually means they had a fun, active, and mentally stimulating stay with us. After lots of enrichment and social interaction, your dog may simply need some quiet time to recharge.

Excitement & Upset Stomach
Despite strict hygiene protocols and ensuring all dogs are on up-to-date preventative treatments, some dogs may experience temporary loose stools after boarding. This is often mild stress- or excitement-related colitis, commonly triggered by the excitement of going home. In most cases it resolves on its own. If symptoms last longer than a few days, please consult your vet.

Clinginess or Indifference
Some dogs may be extra clingy, while others may seem distant or ignore you at first. Both reactions are normal adjustment behaviours and can be linked to mild separation anxiety as your dog transitions back to their home routine. With reassurance and time, behaviour typically returns to normal.
